The following is a great formula for making a Week 2 NFL preseason game intriguing: First, feature the Dallas Cowboys, a team millions will tune in to watch even for an exhibition game. Second, schedule the game to be played in Honolulu, Hawaii, forcing TV viewers into a state of envy as a side dish to their pro-football fix.
Though the NFL preseason schedule is blessing fans with this rematch of last season’s divisional playoff game, it will not be the only Cowboys-Rams game of 2019, as Dallas and Los Angeles are scheduled to meet again late in the regular season. And there’s a strong chance these teams could once again play each other in the postseason, especially if our prediction for Dallas this season comes true.
Ironically, the two players to watch when the Cowboys play the Rams in Hawaii on Saturday night are former teammates. Cowboys running back Tony Pollard backed up Rams running back Darrell Henderson when the two played at Memphis. Now, for differing reasons, the two rookies have the spotlight on them.
With Ezekiel Elliott still holding out for a new deal in Dallas, Pollard is assuming an unexpected amount of responsibility in the Cowboys’ preseason offense. Likewise, with knee issues continuing to plague Todd Gurley, Henderson might be needed in 2019 more than the Rams would like.
